Man shot overnight at Elyria hotel

ELYRIA – Police are investigating a shooting overnight at the Super 8 hotel.

Officers received a report at 2:06 a.m. Thursday of shots fired in the 300 block of Bell Avenue, according to police Capt. Chris Costantino. While responding, officers received a report that an individual had been shot nearby at the Super 8, 910 Lorain Blvd.

The caller told police that four black males were pounding on the lobby door of the hotel and saying someone had been shot, Costantino said.

Police responded and found Rodric Beard, 20, of Lorain, bleeding from the head in the lobby, Costantino said. Beard, who was shot near the bottom of his right ear, was transported to EMH Elyria Medical Center, and later flown by medical helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Beard was listed in good condition at MetroHealth on Thursday morning.

Police interviewed the other three males, who said they were parked in a rental Ford Escape in the back western corner of the hotel’s parking lot. The males were sitting in the vehicle talking to female friends in another vehicle when an unknown vehicle – possibly a purple-colored four-door Dodge – pulled up, according to Costantino. They said suspects got out of the vehicle and shots were fired. Costantino said it is unknown at this time if there was more than one shooter.

Beard was sitting in the passenger seat of the Ford Escape, Costantino said. The passenger side of the vehicle sustained bullet damage, and the windows on that side were shot out.

None of the vehicle’s other occupants were injured.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Elyria Police Department.

Like this story if you are surprised. (If you are surprised, then you must not know Elyria, nor Lorain County or be from here!).

I’m certain they were all good kids, on their way home from church or something..

Good thing he was only shot in the head.

I’ll bet the bullet flattened out on his thick skull.

If it was any other city I would say it was a drug deal gone bad, but not here in Elyria

They just need to stop treating the ones who have been shot, if they have no health insurance , take the police report and send them on their way.

While I agree that society would probably be better off with that person at room temperature, I’m not ok with 1st responders making that call.

And that’s not saying anything about Mexicans using the ER as a free general practitioner, which is utter BS.

im just saying that if they are so big and bad and tough with their guns and living the thug life , let them fend for themselves when they shoot each other up , why send them to the hospital to be patched up and the cost passed on to honest good living people.
