Doris June Slack (nee Greer), 82, formerly of South Amherst, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, following a brief illness. She was born February 3, 1931 in Elyria. Doris was raised in Elyria before moving to South Amherst, where she lived for 20 years before moving to Amherst.
Her primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker. Doris attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of Lorain County Deaf Society. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved painting and coloring, and enjoyed her cats.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Lee Slack, John V. Slack, Jr.; her daughter and her husband, Betty and Robert Dunn; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces, June Wood (Mike) of Wellington, Leslie Myers (Larry) of South Amherst; nephew, David Bowsher of Elyria; and her sister-in-law, Nubby Greer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, John V. Slack, Sr. on September 11, 1987; brother, Warren Greer; sister Dorothy Bowsher; and her parents, Jack L. and Ethel Greer (nee Potter).
Friends may call Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held privately by the family.
