ELYRIA — An Elyria man is accused of shooting at another man.
Jeffrey D. Wise was in custody Thursday night after police responded to a shots fired call at Wise’s home at 136 Monticello Circle off Fowl Road at 10:01 p.m. Wise was led from the home in handcuffs by officers about 10:35 p.m.
Anthony Giannetta, who said he rents an upstairs room in the home from Wise, said he witnessed a fistfight between Wise and David Hill.
Giannetta said Hill rents a downstairs room in the two-story home. The home is owned by Rosemary Wisel, according to the Lorain County auditor’s website.
Giannetta said he was unsure what the fight was about, but apparently Hill owed Wise rent and there was tension between the two during the last month.
Giannetta said he came downstairs and broke up the fight.
Giannetta said Wise then went upstairs and got a .357 Magnum revolver. Hill went to the garage, possibly to drive away in his car.
Giannetta said Wise went to the garage and fired at least one shot at Hill, who ran away. Hill was about 20 feet away when Wise fired, according to Giannetta.
“It was wild,” said Giannetta, who said he moved into the home in October. “All hell broke loose.”
Wise, 36, is due in Elyria Municipal Court today.
