LORAIN — A Lorain woman is accused of hitting a former friend in the face with a baseball bat.

Ashley Wilson said Marilyn Melendez previously accused Wilson of stealing $50 from her, according to a police report. Wilson said she was at Limitless Wireless, 1405 Broadway, around 8 p.m. Monday to pay a bill when Melendez confronted her and struck her with the bat.

Wilson, 30, who police said had two bruised eyes, said she went to Mercy Regional Medical Center Tuesday and was diagnosed with a fractured orbital bone. Melendez, 26, of the 100 block of East 34th Street, was arrested Wednesday and charged with felonious assault.

Melendez has an extensive criminal history, including convictions for assault, aggravating menacing, cocaine trafficking, obstructing official business and tampering with evidence. She was free on a $10,000 bond and due in Lorain Municipal Court at 1 p.m. Thursday.
