Robert J. Banker, 91, of Sheffield Lake, died Saturday, February 1, 2014, at the Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake, after a short illness, with his family at his side. He was born February 13, 1922 in Cleveland, and lived in Avon Lake since 1953, moving to Sheffield Lake in 2008.
He was a self employed accountant and owned Accounting Bookkeeping Services in Cleveland for many years. He served in WW II in the U.S. Navy. He was a longtime active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Avon Lake, where he served as usher for many years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Ragan Council #3269, Avon-Avon Lake, where he ran Friday Night Bingo in earlier years, and was the treasurer for the Columbian Club of the K of C for many years. His hobbies included golfing, fishing and boating. He was a Power Squadron member in Rocky River, and a founding member of the South Shore Cruising Club on Cleveland’s west side.
He is survived by six children, Robert J. (Rose) Banker, Jr., Pennsylvania (Tom) Raby, Ron (Lisa) Banker, Jeffery (Cathy) Banker, Douglas (Lori) Banker, and the late Lois Deborah (Alan) Pack; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; brother, Peter (Helen) Banker of California; sister, Arlene (Louis) Havrilla of Arizona; and sisters-in-law, Yvonne Siemer and Mary Ridgeway.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lois Ann (nee Siemer); and his parents, Peter and Lillian (nee Hill) Banker.
A Memorial mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 8, 2014, 10 A.M., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake. Interment will be private in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
