Christian Joseph Thome, 96, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Kingston of Vermilion, after a lengthy illness. He was born September 27, 1917 in Elyria and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 69 years.
Christian worked as a foreman for Ridge Tool in the Heat Treatment Department for over 40 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. He enjoyed carpentry, building two houses, and loved boating and fishing.
He is survived by his daughters, Marianne (Bill) Roach of Vermilion, Christina (Frank) Greywitt of Westlake and Paula (Tim) Trinter of Vermilion; son, Daniel (Karen) Thome of Birmingham; seven grandchildren, Tim (Jenny), Brian (Jinnifer), Bill (Candi), Sarah (Fred), Frank III (Iryna), Stephanie (Brad) and Joe (Erin); four great grandchildren, Emilee, Courtney, Benjamin, and Colin; and a sister, Frances Zakrzewski of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy (nee Weber) Thome in 1966; second wife, Caroline (nee Dlugosz) Thome in 2001; parents, Aloysius and Olivia (nee Elbert) Thome; and a brother, Leonard “Bud” Thome.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 10, 2014 from 10 A.M. until the time of prayers at 11:30 A.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 Noon at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
