Garfield (Sid) McArthur, 62, of Wellington, died Monday, February 3, 2014 in his home, following a lengthy illness. Sid was surrounded by friends and family. He was born August 6, 1951 in Zanesville, Ohio. He lives most of his life in Lorain. He spent 10 years in Clearwater, Florida and lived the remainder of his years in Wellington.
As a young man Sid raced motocross bikes. As he got older his love for racing grew and he had an affinity for old muscle cars. He frequently took his 1969 Z28 Camaro to the Norwalk Racetrack for amateur drag-racing. He enjoyed going to NASCAR races, and he went every year to the Daytona 500 with his daughter, Bree.
Sid spent his career working in HVAC at various companies. He was a history buff and could answer just about any question about World War II. He enjoyed visiting the National Museum of the Air Force at Wright- Patterson AFB in Dayton. Sid was a doting grandfather, and his only granddaughter Sydney was his pride and joy. He loved spending most Sundays with her. Often they would take walks around the neighborhood, or simply take a drive around in the country.
Survivors include his wife of six years, Mary Yerardi-McArthur; daughters, Bree McArthur of Clearwater, Florida, Logan McArthur of Lorain; granddaughter, Sydney Patterson of Lorain; sister, Dawn McArthur of Washington State; brother, Douglas McArthur of Amherst; and his ex-wife, Kathleen McArthurm of Lorain; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted Allen and Madeline McArthur; and two brothers, Gregory McArthur (1987) and Ted Allen Jr. McArthur (2000).
No Memorial Service is planned at this time. A Celebration of Sid’s life will be held at a later date.
