Dr. George Simko, DDS

OBIT FLAGSimko_GeorgeDr. George Simko, DDS, passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side, Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at home in Oberlin. George was born May 10, 1930, in Lorain, to the late John and Mary (nee Kos) Simko.

He was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1948. George served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He completed his naval training at the Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois, as a dental technician. His tour of duty included being stationed at Camp Pendleton, California as a dental technician and the Bethesda Naval Hospital School of Prosthetic Dentistry. His most significant duty assignment was with the Navy Department, Washington D.C. George graduated from Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania and Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry, Class of 1961. He maintained his private practice, The Denture Clinic, on East 28th Street in Lorain, for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.

Doc enjoyed daily crossword puzzles, getting together with family, his many friends and acquaintances, and telling of his many adventures over the years. He was also a life member of Amvets Post 47, Lorain.

George leaves his loving wife of 29 years, Roberta (Smith-Farr) Simko; children, Shelene Aslaksen, Ondria Simko, and Joseph Simko, all of Avon Lake, David (Mary Sanabria) Simko of Lorain, George S. Simko of Las Vegas, Nevada; stepchildren, Anita Flickinger of Lorain and Brian (Theresa Aldrich) Farr of Gibsonburg; grandchildren, Joshua (Shelly) Aslaksen, Brandon (Vanessa) Aslaksen, Matthew Aslaksen, and Chelsey Swilik; great-grandchildren, Liam and Cole Aslaksen, Colin, Kaleb, Aaron and Emily Aslaksen; his sister, Charlotte Ross of Mentor; and sister-in-law, Marge Simko of Wooster.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Peter Simko; and brother-in-law, Richard Ross.

As per Doc’s wishes, there will be no visitation. There will be a private family memorial only.
