Dr. Hofman studied medicine at the University of Leiden in 1956 and emigrated to the United States after graduation. As a medical doctor, he worked at Lakewood Hospital and Allen Memorial Hospital, where he established himself at the Oberlin Clinic, specializing in Internal Medicine/ Gastroenterology/ Geriatrics. Dr. Hofman enjoyed music, sitting on the waterfront on Middle Bass Island, flying his airplane, good dinners and loved life in general.
He is survived by his stepsons, Jerry Heidenreich of Novelty, Ohio, Gene Heidenreich of Zephyr Hills, Florida; seven stepgrandchildren; brothers, Jelle and Fred Hofman; sisters, Tiny Smit, Nel Collet Hofman, Cathy de Vries and Mary Hofman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Luiza Hofman; second wife, Ardis Ann Hofman; mother, Aaltje Schapp and father, Foeke Hofman.
Memorial Service will be 11 A.M., Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Kendal at Oberlin, in Oberlin, with Reverend David Hill, of First Church of Oberlin, officiating.
