Kenneth D. Hammonds, 53, of Amherst, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain, following a long illness. He was born February 20, 1960 in Lorain. Kenneth was raised in Lorain and lived in LaGrange, before moving to Amherst, where he had made his home for the last seven years.
He attended Southview High School. Kenneth served in the United States Marine Corps. He was self employed as a painter. Kenneth attended Amherst Church of the Nazarene. He was an avid Cleveland Browns, and Cavaliers fan. Kenneth enjoyed boxing and spending time with his dog Rocky.
Survivors include his son, Ryan Hammonds of Newbury, Ohio; his father, Abraham Hammonds of Amherst; brothers, Mark Hammonds and his wife, Judy of Elyria and Dennis Hammonds of Fairview and his fiance, Rondalyn Brindley of Amherst; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Hammonds (nee Stuter); brothers, Stanley and Carl; and his nephew, Christopher.
Friends may call Sunday, February 9, 2014 from 2 to 4 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Rev. Rich Henry, Pastor of Amherst Church of the Nazarene, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
