LORAIN — A city woman faces additional charges of menacing after she allegedly hit a former friend with a baseball bat and later, according to police, threatened her over the phone.

On Jan. 29, Marilyn Melendez, 26, of Lorain, was charged with felonious assault after her former friend, Ashley Wilson, said Melendez hit her in the face with a baseball bat. Melendez was later charged for menacing phone calls she allegedly made after the arrest.

According to a police report, after Melendez was released on bond, she and Wilson’s ex-boyfriend, Rafael Esquilin, called Wilson on the phone. Melendez told Wilson she was a “snitch” and threatened to hit her again, according to the report.

Melendez was also charged with violating a protection order, contempt of court, telecommunication harassing, menacing and intimidation.

Melendez was being held at Lorain County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
