Helen F. Smith (nee Pettry), 74, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon, following a lengthy illness. She was born June 24, 1939 in Sylvester, West Virginia and was a former resident of Elyria.
Helen was a homemaker. She was a member of North Eaton Church of God for 30 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed white water rafting, camping, bowling, and motorcycling.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frankie of Lorain; sons, Rick (Rhonda) of Amherst, Mike (Connie) of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Louis (Denise) of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and Tom (Sandy) of Elyria; grandchildren, Adam Smith, Doug Smith, Jason Fulton, Steve Fulton, Ashley Hamilton, Kelsey Shepherd, Clinton Shepherd, Louis Smith, Catherine Smith, Desiree Smith, Dellona Smith, Emery Smith, Tasha Smith, Megan Tyree, Tom Smith, Jr., 17 great-grandchildren; brother, David Pettry; and sisters, Jennie Pettry, Bertha Mae Lance, Genieve Pettry, and Loretta Pettry.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Willis, Homer, Fred, Kenny, and Frankie; sister, Rosie McCormick; and parents, Fountain L. and Flora Pettry (nee Barley).
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M., Monday, February 10, 2014, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be 11 A.M., Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the funeral home.
