Mr. David F. Spieker, 68, of Amherst, and Saint Cloud, Florida, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014. Dave was born in Lorain December 22, 1945, the son of the late Rolland H. and Dorothy P. (Fleckner) Spieker.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War and was a member of the local VFW and American Legion posts. Dave was a retired Police Officer of 10 years with the Amherst Police Department. He also worked as a court officer for the Oberlin Municipal Court for over 20 years. He was associated for over 20 years as a Amherst Volunteer Fire Department Dispatcher and clerk. He was a member of the Amherst Eagles. Dave loved photography and chronicling his family’s events. He enjoyed working on his computer and emailing friends humorous jokes as well has hand crafting birthday cards that would make them smile. As a young man, Dave served as a Boy Scout leader for troop 427 of Amherst for several years. He worked as an engraver of plaques for many of the local associations awards.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara L. (Dutter) Spieker; two daughters, Cheri, wife of Scott Knoebel of Saint Cloud, Florida, Sandra Spieker of Westerville, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alexa Knoebel and Trenton Knoebel, both of Saint Cloud, Florida; and a sister, Marilyn Novak of Oberlin.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 11 A.M., from St. Paul Lutheran Church, 115 Central Drive, Amherst. The Reverend Terrance Adamson, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Cleveland Avenue Cemetery in Amherst. Full military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
