Mary Ann (Barry) Joyce of Twinsburg, has blessed this earth with grace and love for 79 years, and on Friday, February 7, 2014, went into the arms of her true love, Tom, and her deeply missed son, Tommy.
We are certain she was guided along the way by her sisters- in-law who she saw dancing nearby just days before she left. To try to describe Mary Ann in a few words is an impossible task. There was just something about her that people could not resist. She was a survivor, never a victim. She was a trusted friend, and the very best keeper of secrets. She was a healer with her hands, and with her words. She was a devoted volunteer, a talented artisan, a loyal friend, a giver, a teacher, a guide, simply transcendent. We must add “organized” to this list, as she naturally had her funeral planned, including a letter to all of us which we will read at her service. Her last four days of life were spent without insulin, and with perfect blood sugars, the first time in 48 years. This and numerous other miracles marked her path the last few weeks. She lived her life with the heart of a child and with the bravery of a lion and will continue to hope, throughout eternity, for a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
Surviving her are children, Susan Kenney (Jack) of Cleveland Hts., Kari Foreman (Pat) of Elyria and Matt Joyce (Kelly) of Macedonia; as well as beloved stepson, Mark Joyce (Mary) of Hudson; grandchildren, Michael (Elizabeth), Beckie (Dre) and Erin (Ryan) Kenney, Evan and PJ Foreman, Heather Pelphrey (Chris), Brady and Liam Joyce, Andy (Maureen), Joe, Charlie and Maggie Joyce; and great-grandchildren, Siomha, Andre and Skylar; siblings, Tom (Fran), Mike, Pat and Bob Barry, and Joan Maloney; in-laws, Marge Herrick, Kay and Dick Lardie and Rita and Jim Joyce. She also leaves many dear friends, who we know will miss her as much as we do.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas P. Joyce; her son, Thomas L. Joyce; her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Barry; her in-laws, Leonard and Irene Odziemski, and Mary and Thomas Joyce, and dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Barry, Odziemski and Joyce families.
Mary Ann did not want a funeral, but instead, a party. We will do our best to accommodate her wishes starting with a gathering of friends and family at 9:30 A.M., this Saturday, February 15, 2014, at St. Mary Church, 340 Union St., Bedford. There will be a celebration of her life (mass) at 10:30 A.M. Please join us in honoring the life of this beautiful soul, Mary Ann Joyce.
