Willie Hollis “Uncle Buddy”, 87, of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 9, 2014, in his home, following a long illness. He was born in Whitfield, Alabama, coming to Elyria in 1948.
Mr. Hollis was employed with the city of Elyria in the Sanitation Department and a factory worker for Worthington Ball Co. of Elyria, retiring in 1965.
Mr. Hollis was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, male choir, Mass choir and was a devotion leader. Mr. Hollis enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening and a was a Cleveland Indians fan.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 66 years, Luvenia Hollis of Elyria; daughters, Dora (Authur) McCall, Mary Jenkins, Bettie (Edward) Wilson, all of Elyria, Deloris (Edward) Hollis-Moore and Ella Hollis of Texas; sons, Willie (Daphne) Hollis, Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan, Howard (Shanana) Hollis of North Carolina, Reginald (Tonia) Hollis of Elyria, Eugene (Priscilla) Hollis of Dallas, Texas, David (Barbara) Hollis of Mansfield, Tracy Hollis and Lyle Jackson, both of Elyria, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, sisters, Bertha Noble of Vermilion, Loris (Billie) Folmar of Lorain, and Gertrude (Bishop Willie) Cooper of Elyria, Shirley (Will) Allen, Wanda Capers, Annie Pearl (Jerry) Jones, Rosemary Capers of Elyria; brothers, Ellis (Johnnie) Capers of Elyria, Reverend Jeffrey (Dana) Capers of Lorain; and a host of nieces nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Brunette Capers; sister, Katherine Capers; brother, Joe Wallace Capers.
Friends may call Friday, February 14, 2014, from 11 A.M., until the time of service at 12 Noon, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 614 West River Rd. N., Elyria. Pastor Marcettes Cunningham will officiate and burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
