Pauline A. Kanary (nee Schuster), 87, of Doylestown, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Summa Barberton Hospital. Born September 27, 1926 in Lorain, she lived in Lorain from 1926-1954, Amherst, from 1954 – 1964, Massillon, from 1964 – 2006, and Doylestown, from 2006 until her death.
She was a graduate of Lorain High School in the class of 1944B. Pauline was employed in the ice cream and soda fountain area of the former Whalen Drug Store and later at M. O’Neil Department Store. She was a full-blooded Transylvanian Saxon, which may explain why she did her best work at night and didn’t rise until noon. In addition, she was a member of the Alliance of Transylvania Saxons. She enjoyed dogs, especially French poodles, gardening, health foods, herbs, and her loyalty to the Lawrence Welk Show was legendary.
Mrs. Kanary is survived by her son, Dale (Linda) Kanary of Doylestown; daughters, Barbara (Keith) Houser of DeSoto, Texas and Deborah Goss of Melissa, Texas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Josephine Klekota of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer R. Kanary on August 24, 2002; parents, Johann and Katherina Schuster; brothers, William and John Schuster; and sister, Katherina McLaughlin.
The family will receive friends Monday February 17, 2014, from 10 A.M., until time of services at 12 Noon, in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Mike Prillaman, Pastor of Country Chapel, in Doylestown, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Nana’s House, 10924 Oro Vista Ave., Sunland, CA 91040, to benefit unadoptable street children.
