Dorothy Maxine Grob (nee Mauer), 89, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Kingston Residence of Vermilion, after a short illness. She was born July 8, 1924 in Lorain and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 68 years.
Maxine graduated from Lorain High School in 1942 and attended Huron Road Hospital Nursing School. She worked at Allen Memorial Hospital, Oberlin and for Dr. Raymond Py as a medical receptionist. She had also worked at the Great Lakes Historical Museum.
Maxine was very active in several churches including the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational, and the Harbourtown Community. She taught Sunday School and attended many Bible study classes. She had also been involved with the Friends of Harbour Town, Eight Ball Dance Club, Bridge Club, and volunteered at Old Jibs in Vermilion.
She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (William) Sharp of Wakeman and Connie (Greg) Hansen of Vermilion; son, Garth (Mary Jane) Grob of Vermilion; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Wanda Law of Vermilion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Grob in 1995; parents, George Russell and Wilma (nee Aken) Mauer; and sisters, June Wood and Lois Marie Hoebing.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 17, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at the E&R Church, Vermilion. The Reverend Nick Cacciatore will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
