ELYRIA TWP. – A driver walked away from an accident today after the car he was driving was hit by a train on West Ridge Road.

Elyria Township firefighters put a neck brace on the 22-year-old driver whose car was hit by a train.

Elyria Township firefighters put a neck brace on the 22-year-old driver whose car was hit by a train.

A witness, Jeff Lewis, of Lorain, said he watched the locomotive clip the Honda Civic, which he said was speeding southbound through the train crossing as the train was coming down the tracks.

“The crossings were down, the horn was blaring on the train, you could hear it coming, and he just went right across,” he said. “The next thing you saw was just metal and plastic and everything ricochet.”

Lewis said, miraculously, the driver appeared to be OK.

“He was pretty dazed and confused, about the only thing he could say was he wanted to get out of the car and that he was late for work,” he said. “I informed him I think he was going to miss the day of work.”

State Highway Patrol reported troopers didn’t immediately have any information on the driver, other than that he was conscious and alert after the accident. He was taken to University Hospitals EMH Medical Center.

The vehicle was smashed into pieces next to a broken railroad gate on the side of the road. The crash halted traffic on both sides of the track, as vehicles were routed around the area.

Highway Patrol Trooper Vern Pickering said the crash is under investigation. He said more information on the crash should be released later today.

The driver was the only person in the car during the crash.

  • Really?

Did he make it to work on time? SMH

    • guest

      LOL nope.

  • Joe Smith

    Stupid is as stupid does.

    • Zen_Grouch

You should know Joe, You should know!

  • Bob Sweatt

Just unbelievable. Waiting for the guy’s family comes out of the woodwork saying how great and upstanding this moron is.

    • stillsleepyeyes

so you just sit and wait………………………

    • allyson

Actually, he has a great family. He just made a bad decision. So, unless you know him or his family, get your facts straight and mind your own business. Thanks.

      • Zen Grouch

        He didn’t make a bad decision…

…he made a stupid and reckless decision, and I hope his insurance company denies his claim and he gets sued by the railroad for damages and down time, and by the locomotive driver for inflicting serious trauma.

Then his great family can go live in a tent.

        • Zen_Grouch

I am truly sorry for the retarded comments I’ve been making. To wish harm on others is wrong. Especially where the impact is felt by the innocent – and especially children. You who have agreed with me are a bunch of scum.

      • guest

Just what facts does Bob need to get straight? Yes he did make a moronic decision that could’ve not only got himself killed but someone else as well.

      • Bob Sweatt

Apparently this isn’t the first time he has made a Bad decision, as you call it.

He is very lucky to be alive and only be charged with what he is being charged with. He COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. Let that rattle around in your head and sink in.

But wait before you say it. Yeah he didn’t kill anyone. He only hurt himself. Yes for now he only hurt himself. BUT NEXT TIME he could kill someone.

But hey it is only a few bad decisions right??

And it is my business if some douche bag is loaded and driving a car on the same roads I drive my children on.

Drinking and driving is everyone’s business. Quit feeling sorry for him AND GET HIM HELP!!!!!!!! Tough love works wonders.

        • allyson

i understand that what he did was stupid, but there is NO need for ANYONE to bring his family into this or wish badly upon them when you aren’t aware of the situation and don’t know them. Judge his actions, not his family. That’s just wrong.

          • Bob Sweatt

All I said in my original post was. Watch his family come out and try to defend his actions. Which you did almost on cue.

          • allyson

Actually, I’m not family but I’m very close with his family and they’re great people. You’re talking ignorant. Think about what you say before you judge because you don’t know the whole situation. Have a wonderful day.

          • Joe Smith

Ignorant is driving drunk repeatedly which is his fault, not his family.

          • allyson

I’m not referring to him am I? I’m referring to people bringing his family into this. Everyone just needs to mind their business. I’m done arguing with people who don’t know the situation.

          • Joe Smith

            Good

          • Zen_Grouch

Actually you said “Waiting for the guy’s family comes out of the woodwork”
The phraseology is designed with intent to establish negative pre-conceptions (ie out of the woodwork).

And you’re a heartless $hitface with LOTS of secrets of your own. I think you better stop posting before we start listing them off with the same anonymity of character you possess.

View must be pretty f+@#ing good from that lofty moral ground.

          • Bob Sweatt

Yes it is very good up here on the high tower.

          • Zen_Grouch

            LOL

    • guest

I doubt they have any room to say he’s upstanding or great…. He was driving on an OVI (so his license was suspended) and was once again by his brainless actions caught once again committing the SAME offense.

Apparently not only does he not care his own safety much less others on the road.

    • Zen_Grouch

What about you Bob – your family’s quite the piece of work. That’s not counting the jump you give the Crap-Meter when you go to a reunion.

Let’s all talk about Bob and see what he’s been hiding…
Starting to sweat now Bobby boy.

      U R TRASH

      • Bob Sweatt

Hell I go to family reunions to meet chicks.

The sooner you realize that I am not easily offend. That better you will be.

Oh and I could give to turds, what you or anyone on here thinks about me, my family or my opinions.

        • Zen_Grouch

Ok Bob you are cool – sorry. I go to my reunions to meet guys.

          • Bob Sweatt

Oh I didn’t mean chicks as in human females. I meant Chicks as in chickens. LOL

          • Zen_Grouch

Trolling for a bit, sad I have to go now…
You are one cool cucumber Bob.
            Best laugh I had today.
            Thank you :)

          • Joe Smith

            That was a fowl joke

  • Thomas G. Malloy

Wow~he almost made it on time

  • Anthony Fabian

Questions I have: What crime will he be charged with? Do auto insurance companies have exceptions that will not pay in cases where negligence of this sort is cause of an accident? Does the railroad have the right to sue for damages and does the shippers have the same right for damage to goods and delay of shipment? These people should have their pants sued off of them.

  • Elisabeth1981

You can’t fix stupid. Railroad crossing gates have been around for quite some time there’s no reason anyone has to be in THAT big of a hurry that they cross train tracks when the gates or going down or already have gone down. It was more than just a stupid decision hopefully he gets charged with something.

    • Zen_Grouch

      That explains you

  • B.Lynn

Hes a 22 year old kid who made a very stupid mistake. He did not beat his wife, rob somebody, or sell heroin..Lighten up folks dudes lucky to not lose his life

    • allyson

Thank you! This is what i’ve been trying to say. People keep bringing up his family. I happen to know them and this whole situation. No one should speak on something they know nothing about.

      • beety

I hope this young man is able to see this as a second chance and will recover and make his future better.

    • Joe Smith

Yea, all he did was drive intoxicated endangering the lives of those around him

      • Zen_Grouch

Screw you Joe. You’re a douche bage with a hole in it.

        • Joe Smith

So whats your problem? Are you pro drunk driving or something? Take a pill dude

          • Zen_Grouch

That won’t change the fact you’re a loser

          • Joe Smith

Never mind Zen I see someone is acting like they are you as I now noticed the – between Zen and Grouch which is only on the attack posts, quite the gutless person to attack anon like that.

          • Zen_Grouch

Joe I didn’t give you credit for being literate. Tell your gay b#m-buddy it’s time for a new Avatar, cause this one’s everywhere now. 3 people he knows have mistaken me for him (not my fault) and there’s gonna be some serious ‘splainin’ to do Lucy!

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw fece$.

        • Bob Sweatt

Um every douche bag has a hole in it. That is why they are called bags. DUH!!!

          • Zen_Grouch

Good lord Joe you’re cool under fire. I regret attempting to incite and give praise where due.
            Well done, sir, well done!

  • Arietta Sullivan

i’m sure he does have good in him but he does need help because his criminal activities&reckless behavior is putting others in danger too.

  • SpaceTech

    Too bad ignorance isn’t painful.

  • Kevin Salazar

So he was charged and was under the influence. Damn, and has had run in with the law in the past, damn. And yet I see some people defend this guy? Smh.
