William J. “Billy” Krohe, 60, of Amherst, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at The Orchards Of Westlake, after a short illness. Billy was born December 24, 1953 in Cleveland and had been a Vermilion area resident since 1979.
He graduated from Marion L. Steele High School, Amherst and joined the Merchant Marines working on ore ships in the Great Lakes. He then worked as a mason for various contractors, including Rick Cyran, for many years.
He had been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion. He enjoyed model trains, NASCAR, watching the Cleveland Indians, spending time with his grandchildren, and was a true animal lover, having many pets. He was a loving father, brother, pa pa, and uncle.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Carrie (Greg) Pennington of Lisbon, Ohio; brothers, Thomas (Karen) Krohe of Amherst and Robert J. Krohe of Norfolk, Virginia; sisters, Martha (Joe) Yeater of Elyria, Mary (Jim) Osborn of Elyria, Georgina M. Klekota of Portsmouth, Virginia, Connie (Dan) Willemin of Elyria, Cathy (Ron) Johnson of Elyria, and Liana M. Catterton of Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law, Phyllis Krohe of Amherst; four step grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Georgette (nee Hoffman) Krohe; and a brother, John G. Krohe.
The family will receive friends Saturday, February 22, 2014, from 5 P.M., until the time of a memorial service at 7 P.M., at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Pastor Greg Pennington will officiate.
