Avon police investigating after teen struck by truck

AVON — Police are investigating an accident in which a Wellington teen was struck by a truck.

Avon Police Lt. Dan Fischbach would not release the 13-year-old girl’s name, citing the department’s policy of not releasing the name of juveniles during pending investigations. Fischbach had no information on the girl’s condition but said she was conscious when she was transferred Tuesday to Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland.

Metro cannot provide a patient condition without a name.

The driver, identified as 18-year-old Christopher Schworer, was driving westbound on Chester Road when he struck the girl after swerving to avoid her while she was crossing the street to get mail, police said. Police said the girl was struck by the truck’s passenger-side mirror.

Fischbach said police are not filing charges against Schworer at this time.

Police said the Wellington teen was visiting family in the city when she was struck. Wellington Schools Superintendent John Nolan said, although the girl has a Wellington address, she attends Black River Schools.
