GRAFTON TWP. — A Brunswick man was critically injured in a car crash on state Route 303 just east of Chamberlain Road about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses said Nicholas Black was eastbound in a 2001 GMC Jimmy when he veered right and struck a mailbox, according to a news release from Sgt. Timothy Hoffman, assistant commander of the Ohio Highway Patrol Elyria post.
Black overcorrected and drove off the left side of the road into a utility pole, Hoffman said.
Fire Chief Bob Richards said Black, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was unconscious when extricated from the GMC. Firefighters had to remove the driver’s side door. Fire radio transmissions said Black suffered a head injury and was bleeding profusely.
Black, 22, was hospitalized late Wednesday in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol isn’t suspected.
