Oberlin College professor sues over hostile environment

ELYRIA — An Oberlin College professor is suing the college for allegedly failing to address the hostile work environment created by one of her colleagues in the school’s French Department.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Lorain County Common Pleas Court, said that the professor, Eunjung An, has been the victim of unwelcome harassment from fellow professor Ali Yedes since January 2006 and despite repeated complaints, the college has done little to address the issue.

“Oberlin knew or should have known of Yedes’ harassment and failed to take immediate and appropriate corrective action,” the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit said the first incident between An and Yedes, who isn’t named as a defendant, was on Jan. 18, 2006, when Yedes accused An of “betraying him and attempting to undermine him in a loud, angry, and hostile voice while pointing his finger in her face.”

He also allegedly told her that in his culture, he could have the department’s chairwoman killed for postponing his tenure. The lawsuit said at the end of the “tirade,” Yedes “tightly hugged” An.

Over the next few years, the lawsuit said, Yedes continued to be “hostile and abusive.”

The lawsuit accused Yedes of making threats not just to An, but other female members of the department. Last year, for instance, the lawsuit said Yedes confided in another professor that he would bring a relative over to kill An, something that the lawsuit said the relative refused to do.

A college spokesman declined to comment on the lawsuit, which asks for more than $25,000 in damages, because the school had not seen the legal documents.

If Jeff Dunham can say it on national tv, yes it is funny. Sheesh..

For that joke to be racist, wouldn’t YOU have to make assumptions that may or may not be correct?

Send them all back where they came from.

You know, after reading this and the other lawsuit filed today (22APR), I still can’t figure out who’s suing who or for what.
