Ellis “Mr. T” Thomas, Sr., 75, of Elyria, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the University Hospital of Cleveland, following a short illness. He was born in Hollandale, Mississippi, coming to Elyria in 1962 from Oberlin.
Mr. Thomas was employed for General Motors Plant of Elyria, retiring after 25 years of service. Mr. Thomas also was the owner and operator of Thomas Fine Foods of Elyria, he worked for Lance Buick of Elyria, he was also an Amway salesman. He enjoyed playing pool, card games and having stories for everyone.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Zilphia Thomas; daughters, Gloria Thomas-Jones of Lorain, Emma Marie Lackey of Stone Mountain, Georgia; sons, Alvin (Judith) Thomas of Lorain, John Sellers (Willette) Brooks of Cleveland, Gary Thomas of Baldwin, Michigan, Air Force Col. Christopher D. Brooks (Angie) of Ramsteing, Germany, Alan Jeff Brooks of Elyria, Isaac Vernon Brooks of Elyria, Michael Dwayne Brooks of Fort Worth, Texas; host of grandchildren and also great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; sister, Egella Pickett of Chicago, Illinois; brother, James of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by parents, Will and Rosie Thomas; daughter, Linda L. Moore; sons, Ellis Thomas, Jr., James Thomas, Gregory Thomas; four sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call Sunday, March 9, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. at Carter Funeral Home, 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where services will be Monday, March 10, 2014 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Rev. Brisco Odom, Jr., of Greater Victory Church of Lorain, will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
