Arthur T. Oborne, 89, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Wesleyan Village, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Oborne was born May 19, 1924 in Mobile, Alabama. Elyria has been his home for the past 58 years.
Arthur was a member of Sacred Heart Church and St. Agnes Church in Elyria, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He also participated in the Curcillo movement, was cantor and a member of the choir. Arthur served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He worked in sales for J.C. Penney’s in Elyria before retiring. He then worked part time for the Lorain Journal for the advertising dept. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, baking, and all sports. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Western Reserve and the staff at Wesleyan Village for the wonderful care they provided their father.
He is survived by his children, Christine Oborne, Barbara (James) Fincher, Jim (Cindy) Oborne, Tom (Debbie) Oborne, Mary Jo Vadasz, Beverly (Randy) Below, Donna (Tom) Shumaker, and Susan (Dan) Perry; 26 grandchildren, and 47 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alvera in 2009; son, Jerry; daughter, Joyce; brother, Raymond Oborne; sisters, Phyllis Baker and Anne Kronz; great granddaughter, Sabrina; and by his parents, Raymond and Evelyn Oborne (nee Tucker).
Friends may call at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. Closing prayers will be Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 9:30 A.M. in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Agnes Church, 611 Lake Ave., Elyria, with Rev. Fr. Albert Veigas and Rev. Mr. Ed Dillon officiating. Burial will take place Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria. The Elyria V.F.W. Post #1079 will provide full military honors.
