ELYRIA — A Lorain man pleaded guilty Monday to heroin and other drug charges.

Richard Burroughs, 38, was among those arrested in November as part of a countywide crackdown on heroin after a string of overdoses, including those from the more powerful painkiller fentanyl.

Burroughs was arrested at the Best Western Motel on Griswold Road along with Hannah Barbee, who also faces drug charges in the investigation.

As part of an investigation that included multiple controlled drug buys, Elyria police had searched Burroughs’ Foster Avenue home and found drugs and a handgun before tracking Burroughs to the hotel.

Police said they seized cash, heroin, marijuana, Ecstasy, oxycodone and a .38-caliber handgun.

In addition to a charge of trafficking in heroin, Burroughs pleaded guilty to possession of heroin, attempted tampering with evidence, four counts of trafficking in drugs, three counts of possession of drugs, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges of trafficking in cocaine and possession of cocaine were dropped as part of the plea.

Defense attorney Michael Stepanik said there is no agreement on what sentence Burroughs will receive when he is sentenced later this year.
