Robert C. Holtwick

OBIT FLAGHoltwickRobertRobert C. Holtwick, 77, of Oberlin, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a long illness. He was born September 10, 1936 in North Ridgeville.

Bob was raised in North Ridgeville, graduating from Elyria Catholic High School with the class of 1954. He continued his education at John Carroll University graduating in 1958 with a degree in Business and Sociology. Bob lived in Brownhelm Township for 26 years, before moving to Oberlin in 1997, where he has resided until his passing.

Bob proudly served in the United States Army. He was owner of Robert Holtwick Insurance Agency in Vermilion for 38 years, before retiring in 1998. Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin, where he served as an usher for many years. He loved playing tennis and won several city and county championships in couples tournaments with his wife, as well as singles. In his younger years, he played Class A baseball locally and while in the service he played with military at Fort Eustas, Virginia. Bob was a past president of the Twin City and Vermilion Kiwanis Club. He was also past president of the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce. Bob was a member of the Vermilion Poker Club. In his spare time, he loved traveling to casinos with his wife Glo.

Bob’s wife Glo wants all who read this to know what a wonderful person, and devoted husband Bob was.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Gloria “Glo” J. Holtwick; his loving special god children, Marci (Michael) Murphy and Lindsey Mahar; his brothers, James Holtwick of Memphis, Tennessee, Richard Holtwick of Elyria, Mary Zacharias of North Ridgeville, Carol Loescher of Elyria, Martha Lima of Avon and Nancy Nancy Hartman of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph B. Sr. and Frances Holtwick (nee Redinger); brothers, Thomas and Joseph, Jr.; his sister, Frances Gilgenbach.

Friends may call Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 9:15 A.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 410 W. Lorain St., Oberlin. The Rev. Robert Cole, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church, will officiate. The Rev. Fr. William Padavick and Rev. Fr. Phil Feltman will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin. Military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 410 Lorain St., Oberlin, OH 44074.
