James E. Pence, of Elyria, passed away peacefully at his home, after a long illness, Monday, March 17, 2014. He was born on October 20, 1928 in Carter County, Kentucky and has resided in Elyria since 1952.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy 1948 to 1950 and then moved to Ohio. He was employed at both General Industries and Ridge Tool as a Grinding Specialist. After retirement, he enjoyed collecting antiques. He was co-owner of the Oberlin Flea Market and more recently would setup at Jaime’s Flea Market. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. An avid sports fan, Jim loved playing baseball and pitched for a few local leagues in the area. He enjoyed watching all of the Cleveland Sports teams and keeping up with sports in general, including high school and Ohio State.
Jim is survived by his wife, Laura (nee Hall), to whom he was married 59 years; sons, James (Bonnie) of Kipton, Michael (Rebecca), and Carl; daughters, Janet (Geoff) Hanson and Amy Pence; daughter-in-law, Anne Pence, all of Elyria; grandchildren, Lisa (Jon) Heyd, Sara, Phillip, Stacie, Cathy Pence, Elizabeth (Tony) Adams, Jacqueline Pence, Nicole (Jared) Hubicsak, Jessica Hanson, and Lara Esparza; great-grandson, Jonas Heyd; brother, Ed of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen and son, Phillip; parents, Cleveland and Frances Pence; brothers, William, Russell, Ott, and Oatis; sisters, Sarah, Opal, and Josie.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M., at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria with a memorial service at 7 P.M. Pastor Robert Wickens of Church of the Open Door will officiate. www.buschcares.com
