Helen L. Resar

Resar_HelenHelen L. Resar (nee Mihalis), 81, of Grafton, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at her home, following a long illness. She was born February 26, 1933 in Elyria and was a lifelong Grafton resident.

Helen was the co-owner, along with her husband, of the former Resar Florist in Elyria for over 50 years, retiring in 2005. She was a 1951 graduate of Eaton High School, attended Bowling Green State University for one year, was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Grafton, life member and past president of the V.F.W. Post 1079 Ladies Auxiliary, of which was named in honor of her father, the Lorain County Florist Association, Eaton Township Firebelles, and the St. Mary Church 200 Club. Helen made two trips to Italy, including one to attend the ordination of the Reverend Father Charles Diedrick, and enjoyed traveling to Amish country, Frankenmuth, Michigan, or anyplace anyone was going. She was a Cleveland Indians baseball fan and attended the 1995 World Series and enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines. Helen loved Christmas and buying gifts for family and friends and hosting family gatherings, especially potluck dinners every Monday night during the summer, for over 25 years.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Nicholas “Bob” Resar; daughters, Kathleen Poulton (John, deceased) of LaGrange, Peggy Resar and Teresa (Dennis) Wilfong, both of Grafton; sons, Dale (Donna) Resar and Robert (Kathleen) Resar, both of Elyria; grandchildren, Rob (Kim) Wilfong, Ann (Travis) Irvan, Tim Poulton, Rebecca (Chris) Cagle, Nicholas Resar, Susan Resar, Matthew Resar and Brittany Resar; great-grandson, Zeke Irvan; brothers, John (Jeanette) Mihalis of Wellington and Ron (Shell) Mihalis of Grafton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Velva Mihalis; and a brother, Thomas K. Mihalis.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 23, 2014, 1 until 4 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria, where the rosary will be recited at 3:45 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday March 24, 2014 at 10 A.M., at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 708 Erie St., Grafton. (Please meet at church). The Reverend Father John P. Seabold, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
