The man, who was not yet been identified publicly by police, was arrested after he was positively identified by employees of the bank as the suspected robber. Costantino said the man had a substantial amount of cash.

Police are investigating whether the man may have been connected to a robbery at Talmer Bank and Trust on Wednesday.

Costantino said a similar type of note was used in both robberies.

The suspect in the robbery at Talmer Bank was described as an unshaven white man in his late 40s or early 50s. A passer-by told police the man got into a white Nissan Maxima parked on Antioch and drove away alone, heading west.

Officers found items believed to be related to the robbery, including a jacket, along North Abbe Road.

Today, police found a hooded jacket behind Burger King, believed to belong to the bank robber.

Costantino applauded the quick work of the Elyria Police Department and Lorain County Sheriff’s Office in today’s robbery.

“They guys did a great job,” he said.

    Nice job EPD!

  • Dave Keener

Any chance the bomb threat at EHS was part of the bank robbery?

    • jz

      Good question.

    • golfingirl

      Bingo….we have a winner!

“Police also believe Benson is the same person responsible for robbing Talmer Bank & Trust on March 19, 2014 and he called in a bomb threat to Elyria high School on Sunday, March 19, 2014.”

Seems he likes to call in bomb threats, then rob banks.

  • Joe Smith

He couldn’t have used a gun because they have a no guns sign on the door.

    Good catch EPD

  • MrRespect

Gee! He looks like a nice respectful young man. I doubt he has done any time before, especially with all those professional looking tat’s on his face! Good job EPD.

  • Justin Hersh

I am a Freshman a EHS and my opinion is that it probably wasnt part of the bomb threat. Others might say it was but I dont. The bomb threat today I believe wasnt part of the Rally EHS had outside today in front of the Washington Building. Just my opinion. You guys can believe what you want.

    • golfingirl

May want to change your opinion…….

“Police also believe Benson is the same person responsible for robbing Talmer Bank & Trust on March 19, 2014 and he called in a bomb threat to Elyria high School on Sunday, March 19, 2014.”

Seems to match his M.O. on this one as well. Seems he likes to call in bomb threats, then rob banks.

  • Sis Delish

My Club has an opinion on this story. My Club thinks he needed the money to complete another tattoo. That’s what My Club thinks.
