Leon S. Altfeld, 88, of Avon Lake (formerly of Elyria) passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at Del Ray Medical Center in Del Ray Beach, Florida following a long illness. He was born June 10, 1925 in Elyria.
Leon was an Elyria High School and Ohio State University graduate. He served in the U.S. Army. Leon was the President of Elyria Belting and Machinery. He was a lifetime member of Temple B’Nai Abraham where he was a Past President.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Shirley J. Altfeld (nee Cohn); two daughters, Cindy J. Bright (William) of Princeton Junction, New Jersey, Robin A. Kaufman (Neal) of Westlake; two sons, Clifford B. Altfeld (Lyn Lewis) of Tucson, Arizona, Scott B. Altfeld of Elyria. Additional survivors include seven grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Ackerman of Beachwood, Shirley Backer of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Leon was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Daniella Altfeld; his parents, Alexander and Nettie (nee Horowitz) Altfeld; a sister, Elsie Miller; and a brother, Harvey Altfeld (Sophie)
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be 10:30 Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440) 322-4626. Rabbi Lauren Werber of Temple B’Nai Abraham will officiate. Burial will be at the Salem Cemetery in Lorain.
