Kenneth was a United States Navy Veteran, serving as a Pharmacist’s Mate during World War II. He came to Elyria in 1950 and began working at Western Automatic, where he met the love of his life, Delores. He retired from Milford Rivet Machine Company and Northcoast Rivet Company as a cold header set-up man. After retiring, he went on to teach cold heading set-up and operation. At 80 years old, he continued traveling back and forth to Mississippi as an independent contractor. He was a member of VFW Post 1079, American Legion in Ashland, and Commodore Perry Chapter Antique Car Club. He enjoyed woodworking, golf, candy making, cooking, and gardening.
Mr. Haupt is survived by his wife of 61 years, Delores (nee Babb) of Elyria; children, Ronald D. of Elyria, Vicki L. Carrel (Jim) of Seattle, Washington, Kathy A. Tite (Tim Farren) of Elyria, David Kenneth Haupt of Elyria; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; siblings, Jane Duceman and Flora Gilger of Pennsylvania, John Haupt and Mary Bengough of Grafton, Bette Cawthern of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his son, Willard E. Haupt; sister, Helen Mae Harris; brother, Ralph Haupt; and parents, Ralph and Helen Haupt.
Friends may call 6 until 7:30 P.M., Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Memorial service will begin at 7:30 P.M. Jim Carrel will officiate. Inurnment will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 28, 2014, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, with Military Honors.
