Avon Lake fire Lt. John Reitz said the department was called out to the home at 7:06 a.m. to find a fire at the corner of the garage door and front of the house. The fire was limited to the exterior of the home, but there was some overhaul of the interior to get to the flames, Reitz said.
The homeowner, who reported the fire, safely escaped the home before firefighters arrived.
The home, valued at $157,330, is owned by Michael and Mary Summerfield, according to the Lorain County Auditor.
Reitz said the fire was under control in approximately five minutes, with the fire department leaving the scene by 8:17 a.m.
“It was under control very quickly,” he said.
