Alice E. Hemphill (nee Fox), 67, of Pittsfield, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at her sister’s home, following a brief battle with cancer. She was born May 29, 1946, in Cleveland and was a Pittsfield resident for most of her life.
Alice was a registered nurse for 42 years, and worked as a detox nurse in Serenity Hall at St. John Westshore Hospital in Westlake, for 25 years. Following that, she worked at EMH Regional Health Care for seven years, retiring in 2013. She was a 1965 Oberlin High School graduate and enjoyed traveling the world, including trips to Italy, Spain, France, England and Ireland. She also enjoyed enjoyed attending weekly Bible study classes at the Church of the Open Door, being outdoors and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Ashley Fox of Pittsfield; granddaughter, Sutton Fox; sister, Audrey Weaver of Elyria; brother, William (Linda) Fox of Oberlin.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Bruner, Jr. in 1994; her parents, Wilfred and Mabel Fox; and brothers, Ralph and Edward Fox.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 30, 2014, 1 until 4 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, 440-322-4626. Services will be Monday, March 31, 2014, at 11 A.M., in the funeral home. Pastor Troy Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Pittsfield Cemetery, Pittsfield Township.
