Lois E. Wendell (nee Burr), 86, of Elyria, died at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center on Friday, March 28, 2014, following a long illness. Mrs. Wendell was born on May 18, 1927 in Elyria and was a life long resident.
She was employed at the Corner Store on Cleveland St. for many years and as a cashier at Lorain County Community College for 20 years, retiring in 1988. She was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Elyria where she was active in the Elizabeth Stevens Society. Lois was also an active member of the American Legion Post 12 Auxiliary and the VFW Post 1079 Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering at Elyria Memorial Hospital for many years.
Mrs. Wendell is survived by one daughter, Joanne (Robert) Bialas of Elyria; two sons, Lawrence E. (James Lehman) of Lewes, Delaware and David (Charlotte) Wendell of Avon; one sister, Joyce (Edward) Carley of St. Louis, Missouri; and one brother, Lester (Barb) Burr, Jr. of Rochester, New York; four grandchildren, Scott (Corrin) and Mark (Erin) Wendell and Justin (Regina) and Noah Bialas; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack I. Wendell in 1998; her parents, Lester Sr. and Esther Burr (nee Davie); brother-in-law, Edward Carley; and sister-in-law, Violet Burr.
Friends may call at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria, Monday, March 31, 2014 from 3 to 7 P.M. The American Legion Post #12 Auxiliary will hold a prayer service at 6 P.M. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 11 A.M. The Rev. Roger Talbot, Pastor of the Elyria First United Methodist Church and Rev. Dalton Love, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridgehill Cemetery, Amherst Twp.
