Man, 67, charged with exposing self

EATON TWP. — A man was charged with indecent exposure after his neighbors accused him of pulling his genitals out of his pants and “jumping up and down” in the yard.

The man, 67-year-old Joseph Plata, was arrested after an investigation March 23.

Plata’s neighbors said they’ve had ongoing problems with Plata, who they said has exposed himself in the past. They told police the last time Plata exposed himself, their small children witnessed it.

When asked if Plata exposed himself to his neighbors, Plata told the officer, “No, I was just itching.” He later admitted to exposing his genitals after some questioning, saying that he did so as a “screw you to my neighbors,” according to a Lorain County Sheriff’s report.

Plata pleaded not guilty to two counts of indecent exposure at Elyria Municipal Court, and he was ordered to have no contact with his neighbors.

A pre-trial on the charges is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. April 15.
