Karl A. Stutz, 81, of Elyria and Ft. Myers Beach, Florida (formerly of Canton), passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, following a short illness. He was born August 8, 1932 in Canton.
Karl served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Business from The Ohio State University. Karl was the owner and operator of Trico Oxygen Co. in Elyria from 1980 until his retirement.
He was a long time member of The American Welding Society; other memberships include Elyria Rotary, Elks (Past Exalted Ruler of Canton Elks Lodge #68), Moose Lodge, American Legion and VFW service Clubs. Serving the community in various capacities, Karl was a past President and Senator with the Canton Jaycees and was a past Plain Township Trustee and Clerk. Karl dedicated his life to his family and his business. He enjoyed golf, fishing and was an avid fan and alumni of The Ohio State University.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon A. Stutz of Huntington Twp.; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin K. and Darlene Stutz of Grafton; and his granddaughter, Holly Stutz.
Karl was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Patricia A. (nee Koch); and his parents, Fritz and Lena (nee Steinbacg) Stutz.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 P.M., Monday, March 31, 2014 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. The family will also receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M., Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Arnold Funeral Home, 1517 N. Market St., Canton and one hour prior to services from 10 A.M. until the time of services at 11 A.M., Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Arnold Funeral Home, with Dr. Don Baird officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton with military honors.
