SFC Sergeant Cornell F. Shepherd, Sr.

Shepherd_CornellOBIT FLAGRetired SFC Sergeant Cornell F. Shepherd Sr., 79, of Elyria, passed away peacefully in the University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center in Elyria, Tuesday, March 25, 2014, following a short illness. He was born in Cleveland, coming to Elyria after his retirement from the U.S. Army.

He attended the Cleveland public school system. After graduation, Mr. Shepherd joined the U.S Army in 1956. Mr. Shepherd was a recruiter for the U.S. Army in Elyria. He enjoyed building trains and model cars and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his son, Vincent D. Shepherd of Lorain; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Laverne Williams, Darlene Washington, Arnetta (John) Parker, Nadine (Ernie) Fuller, all of Cleveland; brothers, Lamar (Cynthia) Shepherd, Calvin Shepherd, both of Cleveland; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by son, Cornell F. Shepherd Jr.; and brother, Donald C. Shepherd.

Friends may call Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 10 until time of service at 10:30 A.M., at the Carter Funeral Home, 3001 Elyria Ave., Lorain, Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery in Rittman.
