Leonard “Gus” Gutschmidt

OBIT FLAGGutschmidtDonaldLeonard “Gus” Gutschmidt, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Missoula, Montana on Friday, March 28, 2014. He was born in Olmsted Falls on August 12, 1933 to Henry and Helen Gutschmidt.

He graduated from North Ridgeville High School and entered the Navy, where he spent the next 20 years of his life, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

For those of you who didn’t know his name, he became “The Candy Man” always handing out two mints to everyone he met. He loved betting his “Five Bucks” on the Army-Navy Game with his brother, Norm. He will be missed.

He is survived by his brother, Norm (Lenda) Cotterman of Missoula, Montana; many nieces and nephews in Ohio and Brazil.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; son, Bill; father, Henry Gutschmidt; mother, Helen Gutschmidt Cotterman; step father, Myron Cotterman; brother, George Gutschmidt; sisters, Julianne Schuster and Marian Hawke.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 11 A.M. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Bonner, Montana.
