OBIT FLAGSmithRaymondLRaymond L Smith, 93, of Homerville, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Emeritus in Medina. He was born August 25, 1920, in Elyria, the son of Edward and Muriel (Snodgrass) Smith.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He retired 1982 from Harshaw Chemical Company of Elyria, where he was a maintenance man. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria till 2003, then St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem, a life member of American Legion Post #12 of Elyria, Elyria Senior Fellowship, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and an Elyria Catholic High School Booster.

He is survived by his wife, Alene (Bowman) Smith whom he has been married to for 72 years; children, Donna (Donald) Neuberger of Brunswick and Larry (Joyce Axx) Smith of Homerville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

His parents; brothers, Edward and Donald Smith; and sisters, Winfred Wenger and Betty Grecko, preceded him in death.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 10 A.M., in St. Stephen Catholic Church in West Salem, with Father Tom Stock and Father Carl Uhler, Pastor Emeritus, officiating. Friends will be received at the Matteson Funeral Home, West Salem, Friday, April 4, 2014, 5 until 8 P.M. Burial will br in Ridgeville Cemetery in North Ridgeville.
