Lorain man pleads guilty to vehicular homicide

A Lorain man pleaded guilty Wednesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and other charges for a 2013 crash that claimed the life of Elyrian William Fekete.

Ryan Fye, 21, will be sentenced in the case May 15, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty’s office.

Fye was behind the wheel of a 2005 Mitsubishi Lander Evolution when the car went off the road in Bradley Woods Reservation in Westlake and struck a tree at a high rate of speed at 4:18 p.m. March 23, 2013, according to Cleveland Metroparks rangers.

Fekete, 22, was killed in the crash, while three other passengers, Molly Suydam of Wellington, Kevin Gonzales of Liverpool Township and Brooke Schoewe of Wakeman, were injured.

Fye was treated and released from the hospital.

Fye appears to have lost control of the car, and rangers said they found no evidence of alcohol or drug use.

A lawsuit filed by Fye’s insurance company is seeking to have a court determine how much the victims of the crash should receive if a settlement isn’t reached.
