Sidney Paul Butchko

Butchko_SidneyOBIT FLAGSidney Paul Butchko, 71, of Oberlin, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 following years of various medical difficulties.

Born on September 15, 1942 in Lorain, Sid graduated from Clearview High School in 1959, where he played on an undefeated football team. He then attended Bowling Green State University, until he joined the military. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. Following his time in the service, Sid went to Lorain County Community College and received his Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Drafting. He spent numerous years in his career as a project designer and estimator, having worked for various companies.

In 2009, Sid was fortunate to receive the gift of life by being a recipient of a double lung transplant. After passing away, he was an organ donor in return. Sid was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Oberlin and a member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing chess with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol (nee Abrahamowicz); his son, Greg (Jennifer) of Vermilion; his daughters, Paula (Dan) Stallard of Newburyport, Massachusetts, and Kimberly (Jim) Eibel of New London, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jake, Dannin and Macey Butchko, Jillian and Lucas Stallard, and Weston and Carter Eibel; his mother-in-law, Julia Abrahamowicz of Lorain; his brother, Gary (Caroline) of Lorain; and his sisters, Nikki (Alastair) Leonard of London, England and Carol Sue (Larry) Gans of St. Louis, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Sue (nee Muhar) Butchko.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 1 to 5 P.M. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, 410 W. Lorain Street, Oberlin. Rev. Fr. Robert Cole, Pastor, will officiate. A private burial will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors being conducted.
