William C. Gehlke, 80, of Grafton Township, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 in his home, following a long illness. He was born August 3, 1933 in Cleveland and had been a lifelong resident of Grafton.
He had retired from Circle Plumbing and had also served on the zoning board with Grafton Township. A 1951 graduate of Eaton High School, he served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1952-1956. He was stationed on the Great Lakes.
Bill was very active with the Black River Game Club, Ducks Unlimited, the Amateur Trap Shooting Association and the NRA.
He is survived by his daughter, Shelly (Tom Burrer) Hershey of Litchfield; sons, Michael (Bonnie) Hershey of Garrettsville and Jeff (Amy) Gehlke of Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Courtney Hersey, Josiah Gehlke; and great grandchildren, Lane and Lexi Hersey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicky Lee Gehlke in 2005; sister, Helen; and by his parents, William and Augusta Gehlke.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 3 to 5 P.M., where funeral services will be held Monday, April 7, 2014 at 11 A.M. Rev. Jonathan McCleery, Pastor of the LaPorte United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Belden Cemetery, Grafton Township.
