James Monroe told police he was with a friend at the McDonald’s at 3221 Oberlin Ave. about 9:45 p.m. when a woman he knew came into the restaurant with her boyfriend. Monroe said he started talking to her about her family, and as they were talking, the woman’s boyfriend started swearing and talking angrily to himself, according to the report.
Monroe told police the boyfriend suddenly came toward him holding a knife and told Monroe he would “gut him,” according to the police report. Monroe told police the man left before officers arrived.
Police spoke with Monroe’s friend as well as employees at McDonald’s, all of whom corroborated Monroe’s story, according to the report. When police watched a surveillance video of the incident they saw a man walking toward Monroe with an “aggressive demeanor,” and holding something in his right hand.
