Alonzo “Al” J. Riddle, 86, of Grafton, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 in the New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a short illness. He was born March 25, 1928 in Grantsville, West Virginia and had lived in Grafton since the early 1950′s.
He was retired from Industrial Pollution Control after 24 years as a truck driver. Al also had worked part time with the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home since the early 1980′s. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Asia.
He was a member of Hinkson-Hysell Grafton VFW Post #3341, the United Polish Club in Elyria and a member of Local #571. His hobbies included gardening, deer hunting, fishing and golfing.
He is survived by his daughter, Renee Hildebrandt of Grafton; son, Rick (Marilyn) Riddle of Grafton; sister, Bernie Tallhammer of Grantsville, West Virginia; his brothers, Harold Riddle and Hoy Riddle, both of Elyria; his grandchildren, Mat Riddle, serving with the U.S. Navy, Jesse Hildebrandt of Grafton, Janel Hildebrandt of Grafton, Gerry Mark, retired U.S. Army, Terry Mark, also retired U.S. Army; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn M. Riddle in 2008; his brother, Eugene Riddle in 2008; and by his parents, William and Florence Riddle.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M., where funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, April 10, 2014. The Rev. Delaine McGhee, Pastor of the Grafton United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Nesbett Cemetery, Grafton Township, with military honors by Grafton VFW #3341.
