Suspect arrested in robbery, car theft

COLUMBIA STATION — A 19-year-old North Olmsted man is due in Elyria Municipal Court today to answer to an aggravated robbery charge.

Mark Ballas is accused of robbing Star Beverage, 9856 West River Road, at knifepoint about 3:55 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Donald Barker of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Ballas also is accused of stealing an Infiniti G5 outside Convenient Food Mart, 25093 Sprague Road, to make his getaway.

The Infiniti was found abandoned at Jaquay and Osborne roads shortly after the robbery, said Sgt. Todd Weegmann. He said a North Olmsted police sergeant who heard about the robbery called the Sheriff’s Office and said Ballas resembled the robber.

Ballas was arrested at his home without incident. Ballas was held without bond at the Lorain County Jail late Monday.
