Donald Joe Yeater, 69, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a brief illness. He was born April 4, 1945, in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Donald lived in Springfield, Virginia for 20 years, before coming to Elyria in 2008, where he resided until his passing. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years, as an aviation electrician. After retirement from the military, Donald continued his service to his country with the Department of Defense for 20 years as an independent contractor. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. He enjoyed gardening and farming. His greatest joy was his family and the ability to make sure they were taken care of.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Martha Yeater (nee Krohe); his son and his wife, Douglas Jon and Stacy Yeater of Hector, New York; his daughter and her husband, Morena Jean and Bruce Fuller of Ponca City, Oklahoma; his brother and his wife, John and Margaret Yeater of Bridgeport, West Virginia; his sisters and their husbands, Clara and Tom DeWitt of Morgantown, West Virginia, Marjorie and Paul Kiddy of Richmond, Virginia; and seven grandchildren, William Yeater, Alexander Yeater, Presley Fuller, Chivas Fuller, Riley Fuller, Holly Fuller, and Savannah Fuller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Jettie Yeater (nee Spencer).
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, 10 A.M., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Reverend Lawrence Martello, Pastor, will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
