Russell W. Krage, 75, of Elyria for the past 46 years, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born March 27, 1939 in North Ridgeville, where he resided for 27 years.
Russ was a 1957 graduate of North Ridgeville High School and served in the United States Army and National Guard from 1957-1965. He found many professions as he raised his family throughout his lifetime. Russell was a semi-truck mechanic trained on the job. He was employed as a cashier at the Shell Gas Station in Elyria for 17 years and was a dedicated delivery driver for the Chronicle Telegram in his remaining years. Mr. Krage was a former member of the First Assembly of God Church now called The Cross Community Church in Elyria. Some of his hobbies included playing the accordion, gardening, computer games; also tinkering with things around the house. He was an avid car enthusiast and had a great love for animals.
Mr. Krage is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathleen (nee Yost); sons, Donald F. Krage of Circleville and Albert W. Krage of North Ridgeville; daughter, Julia A. VanPelt of Centerville; four grandchildren, D.J., Cristina, Jeremy, Joshua; and one great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick (Fritz) and Evelyn Krage; brothers, Patrick Krage (2004) and John R. Krage (2009).
A Memorial Service, with military honors, performed by VFW Post #1079 of Elyria, will be 2 P.M., Monday, April 14, 2014, at Resthaven Memory Garden Chapel. Reverend Randall McKinney, Pastor of Cross Community Church, will officiate.
