Suspected gunman arrested in Westlake shooting

WESTLAKE – The suspect who fired shots at an accounting firm on Center Ridge Road has been found.

Robert Godwin, 74, of Cleveland was arrested on Wednesday on firearms-related charges at his home in Cleveland.

Police believe Godwin is the gunman who fired two shots at Home Savings & Loan on 30700 Center Ridge Road, around noon on Saturday.

One shot hit a window of the building and one was in the direction of a police officer, according to Westlake police. No one was hurt in the incident but the shots incited a six-hour search for the suspect around the area of Center Ridge Road and Bradley Road.

Seven police departments were involved in the search but no suspect was found on Saturday night.

Police continued the investigation and on Wednesday, arrested Godwin in connection to the shots and searched his home where they found a .38-caliber revolver, according to a press release.

Godwin had a past dispute with Elios Financial Group, which works out of the building on 30700 Center Ridge Road, according to the press release.

His court date is on Friday in Rocky River Municipal Court.
