ELYRIA — Police have a teenager in custody after shots were fired in a backyard Friday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that a group of people was sitting in a backyard in the area of 12th Street and West Avenue when a male entered the backyard with a gun. The male started yelling at the group and then fired shots at them, witnesses told police.

Everyone in the backyard took off running, and no injuries were immediately reported, police Capt. Chris Costantino said.

Police saw someone matching the description of the shooter running northbound and caught him on 12th Street and Middle Avenue, Costantino said.

A 17-year-old male was taken into custody for questioning. Police found a 9 mm bullet in the teen’s pocket, Costantino said. The gun has not been located.
