Philomena Mintie (nee Severino), 96, of Avon, formerly of Cleveland, passed away at home Thursday, April 10, 2014, following a two year battle with congestive heart failure. Philomena was born April 28, 1917 in Batavia, New York. She was a long time employee of American Greetings, retiring after 37 years.
Philomena was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Avon. She enjoyed gardening and horticulture. She also took delight in cooking, baking, knitting and sewing.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Whiteman (Richard) of North Ridgeville; granddaughter, Kristin Whiteman; sister, Antonette Salvadore of Batavia, New York; and brothers, Nicholas of Batavia, New York, Louis of Wickliffe, and Jerry Severino of Italy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert; brothers, Lawrence, Anthony, and Frank Severino; and sister, Theresa Severino.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Road, Avon, from 6 until 8 P.M., Sunday, April 13, 2014. Prayer service, at the funeral home, will be Monday, April 14, 2014, at 9:15 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Road, Avon, at 10 A.M., with Father John Misenko as the Celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
